Lymphatic drainage massage is a light touch, full body massage which

 stimulates the body to return lymph fluid to the lymphatic vessels and back into the cardiovascular system.

Being gentle, slow and rhythmical, it is very relaxing. 

Your body may feel heavy post treatment, this is a sign of relaxation.

The benefits of this treatment may be immediate and may take 24-48hrs for the body to respond.

Please note that I do not treat post surgical patients.

What is lymph?

When plasma, the liquid part of your blood, leaves your capilaries and bathes the cells in your body, it is known as interstitual fluid.  It delivers nutrients and oxygen to your cells and takes away waste products like carbon dioxide.

The interstitual fluid that is not reabsorbed into the capillaries is collected by lymphatic vessels and is then known as lymph.  Lymph is transported around the body in the lymphatic system, cleaned by the lymph nodes present around your joints and delivered back into the cardiovascular system.

Lymph nodes help to protect the body from infection by cleaning the lymph and removing bacteria, excess protein, and abnormal or dead cells.

How can I help to move lymph?​

Unlike the cardiovascular system, the lymphatic system does not have a pump to move the fluid around. 

Instead, it relies on muscular contraction and changes in internal pressure created when the diaphragm moves during breathing.  There are three ways you can help lymph move back to your cardiovascular system:

1. Exercise and movement  - Something gentle and rhythmical like walking or yoga is ideal.

2. Gravity - if you lie on your back with your legs up a wall, straight or in a V shape, gravity will help to move leg fluid.

3.  Diaphragm breathing
